  • Summer heat is real. July and August in Tarrant County routinely hit 100°+. A 30-amp or 50-amp full-hookup site lets the A/C run hard all day — I always confirm your electric service before I pick the unit.
  • Book holiday weekends early. Memorial Day, the Fourth, and Labor Day fill months out. Cedar Hill is the closest state park camping to the entire DFW Metroplex, so the demand is no joke.

What there is to do once you’re set up

Joe Pool Lake is the centerpiece — there’s a swim beach, a fishing pier, and boat ramps, plus miles of shoreline. The DORBA mountain bike trail inside the park is one of the better-known beginner-to-intermediate loops in North Texas, and the Penn Farm historic site is a quiet walk-through that’s easy with kids. Because you’re parked with a full kitchen and your own bathroom, the move I recommend is simple: spend the day on the water or the trails, drive back to a cooled-down RV, grill out, and let the kids crash. Then if you want a city day, you’re a quick hop to the Fort Worth Zoo, the Botanic Garden, or the Stockyards for the cattle drive.
